Materials Group in Material Master

In addition to material type, each material record can further be grouped according to the same features together using material groups. The material group does not contain different levels or possible combinations of goods. However, it can be used to carry out different analysis functions such as reporting based on material group and material purchase history by material group.

The following material groups have been identified and defined for MyCompany:

Additional material groups can be created as per My company requirement.

Once a material has been maintained in the SAP database, changes need to be made for master data’s maintenance. Therefore, the material master record can be:

Extended: Material master extension is used when organizational level data or departmental data has not been maintained. The extension process allows the user to define these levels (e.g. the purchasing data view has not been maintained, or the material has not been extended for a certain storage location). It’s a process similar to material creation.

Changed: If the data maintained needs to be altered, the record can be changed using the material master change transaction.

Flagged for Deletion: If a material becomes inactive and is not in use any longer, it may be flagged for deletion. Flagging the material prevents users from entering any transactional data for the material in question.

Changes to material master records can be maintained collectively using the mass maintenance function.

Following information will also be provided in material master and will be available in filtering of reports.

1. Inventory Sub-type (i.e. Foil , Carton)
2. Origin
3. Business Unit
4. product group
5. destination country
6. pack type

• Artwork specification number

• Sales related data  (Refer to SD BP)

The following information will be provided in material master as text field.

·         Items HS Code information with related taxes and charges.
