Master Data (Material Master) - SAP Implementation
The processes of materials management are based on various
types of basic data. This data can be maintained for materials, vendors etc.
This basic data is stored in master records in the system. When processing
business events and transactions, the system accesses master records and the
data stored in them.
For Materials Management (MM), the master data used is:
Material Master
The purpose is to
document how material master data will be created through SAP System. The
material master data will be required for all activities related to inventory
storage, accounting, production, sales and purchasing.
The material master
contains information on all the materials that a company procures, stores, and
sells. It is the company's central source for retrieving material-specific
data. This information is stored in individual material master records.
The material master is
used by all components in the SAP Logistics System. The integration of all
material data in a single database object eliminates redundant data storage.
